Infant Seats, Convertible Seats, and Car Seat Accessories
Use from birth Infant car seats are designed to be portable and used from newborn, up to 12 months. They come with a base that remains in your vehicle (and you can usually purchase an extra base for a second vehicle), onto which the infant seat quickly locks. You can then remove the infant seat from your car and mount it on a compatible stroller or carry.
Use from birth Convertible car seats are designed for use from newborn to toddler, usually up to 33 to 40 pounds. The convertible seat is not easily portable, and most parents will have one in each car. Its main advantage is 2-3 years of use after purchase. Convertible seats start with the rear-facing position in the car, then change to forward-facing with a toddler.
Use from 20 pounds Booster car seats are designed for use from young toddler during the formative years, usually up to 70+ pounds. Most parents will have one in each car, and many are certified for use on an airplane. Many booster seats come with a 5-point harness to use with younger toddlers, and then seatbelt guides for older children.
